Only definitive verdicts use a credit, and you spend one credit per address each time you validate it — every separate request or list. If a result comes back 'unknown,' it's free, you never pay for an answer we can't confidently give. Every account also gets 100 free credits each month, and the validation playground uses no credits at all.
